3cups Taste testing is underway in the CBC Manitoba "Coffee Break" contest. The top five contestants, as voted by listeners, are; Thom Bargen, Parlour Cafe, Little Sister Coffee Maker, Cafe Postal, and Cafe d'Amour. Over the next hour our panel of judges will critique the cups based upon their Aroma, Flavour, Aftertaste and Balance.

Following the first round of taste-testing in the CBC Mantioba Studio, two cups have been voted out of the competition. Harry, Sarah and Andy have voted Thom Bargen, Parlour Cafe and Little Sister Coffee Maker on to the next round in the search for Winnipeg's best cup of coffee. The fierce debate over the merits of each sip continues in Studio "C" (for coffee). The Judges are currently re-testing the top three contestants and will announce the winner shortly. Stay tuned to Information Radio, and remember, the first 20 listeners to visit the winning coffee shop for a "CBC Coffee Break" will be served Winnipeg's best coffee in Winnipeg's best coffee mug...a CBC travel mug of course!

After powering through a grand total of twenty four cups of coffee our official coffee judges have announced a winner. The best cup of coffee, in Winnipeg, can be found at Little Sister Coffee Maker!

Sarah is training to be Sommelier, a writer and a passionate traveller. She eats with gusto and will try anything once. After an unfortunate incident in 2007, has vowed never to have more than 2 cups a coffee a day. Or maybe 3.


Harry Samphir @HarrySamphir

"In the life of a newspaper man, java is my spirit guide." Harry has have been drinking coffee since his early teenage years, and has developed a fondness for a deeply flavourful yet refined cup. A coffee explorer, Harry enjoys finding new roasters, espressos, and forms of preparation too.


Andy Wiebe @andywiebe

Co-owner of Jonny's Java in Winkler, MB, Andy takes coffee seriously, down to the last drop. He is a two time Prairie Regional Barista Championship (PRBC) certified judge, one time Canadian National Barista Championship (CNBC) certified judge and recently started his own roasting company.
