Toy Story for Christmas Campaign

Mainstreet Banner.jpgIt's been a busy few days for people at Murphy's Community Centre. The group at the centre has collected twice as many toys, games and books as last year as part of its Toy Story for Christmas campaign. This is the second year the centre has been collecting gently used and new gifts for kids. Families that are having a hard time at Christmas pick up what they need, so everyone has something under the tree.

Maggie Brown went to the Centre to take a look...and spoke with Tracy Lynn Elsworth. She's the supervisor of Teen Zone, the after school program at the Murphy Centre.

Yalda celebration - Susan Behi

Mainstreet Banner.jpgPeople in Iran honour the winter solstice with a celebration called Yalda, it's a tradition that dates back to ancient days, and it's one that's recently been transplanted here on PEI, along with a recent influx of immigrants from Iran. This Thursday night there'll be a Yalda celebration taking place at the Murphy Centre in Charlottetown. Everyone is welcome to attend. To find out more I spoke with one of the founders of the new Iranian Association of PEI, Susan Behi.

Lion's Club - Ronnie McIntosh

CBC PEI Turkey Drive 3.jpgThe Souris foodbank may be small but it certainly does a lot to help hundreds of people in the area every month. In the basement of the legion, the foodbank operates out of one very cramped room - packed full of food that keeps people going all year round.

Now the foodbank is gearing up for it's special Christmas boxes. The Lion's Club donates hampers to families - the Souris foodbank gives out hampers to those who may not have large families or children. Ronnie McIntosh spoke with Karen Mair about how things are going at the foodbank.
