Video of Tyre Nichols beating renews questions about police violence
21:21
On Friday, graphic video footage of the violent beating of Tyre Nichols by police in Memphis, Tenn. was made public, and quickly reverberated around the world. The Black man died a few days after the encounter, and five Black officers have been fired and charged with second-degree murder and other crimes in Nichols's death. In the aftermath, questions are once again being raised about the policing of Black Americans. Piya Chattopadhyay is joined by Robert Samuels to explore some of them. Samuels is a former Washington Post reporter, soon-to-be staff writer for The New Yorker and co-author of the book His Name is George Floyd: One Man's Life and the Struggle for Racial Justice, alongside Toluse Olorunnipa.
