What can be done to avoid and weather future telecommunications outages
Canadians are still emerging from the widespread Rogers outage that began on Friday, which severed cellular and internet access for millions of subscribers, and disrupted some government systems, financial transactions and emergency services for millions more. The company said service had mostly been restored by Saturday afternoon. But the broad effects of the outage raise questions about how to avoid this kind of interruption in future. To explore what some solutions may look like, David Common speaks with Ben Klass, a PhD candidate at Carleton University's School of Journalism and Communication, and a research associate with the Canadian Media Concentration Research Project.
