How artist Ekow Nimako uses Lego to imagine new monuments for Black youth
Ekow Nimako is a Toronto-based artist who's transformed Lego into a medium for really powerful works of art. He spends hours snapping black plastic bricks together to create futuristic Afrocentric cities, West African masks, or a Black horseman on top of a big black unicorn. Nimako’s mission is to imagine new monuments for Black youth, who may not see themselves in existing statues and sculptures. He joined Tom Power to tell us more about his work.
