Salome Bey's daughters reflect on their late mother's life, legacy and music
On Aug. 8 of this year, Salome Bey, known as Canada's first lady of the blues, died at the age of 86. The American-born singer left behind an artistic legacy that echoes through the theatres of Broadway, the jazz cafes of Paris and the stages of Toronto — the city that she made her home in the ‘60s. Her daughters, musicians SATE and tUkU, joined guest host Talia Schlanger for a chat about their mother's journey to becoming one of the most beloved pioneers of Black Canadian theatre and music.
