Matthew Shepard was an openly gay 21-year-old man when he was brutally beaten and killed in Laramie, Wyoming in 1998. His murder brought international attention to the battle for gay rights. And put a spotlight on hate crime laws in the United States.
Matthew's story inspired films, novels, songs.
But perhaps best known is a play: The Laramie Project.
The Country Day School in King City is staging it for the next three days.
Matthew's parents have travelled from Wyoming to watch it.
We speak with Scott Garbe, the school's head of drama and Dennis Shepard, Matthew's father.
