'I couldn't turn away from it,' says Canadian military vet injured in Ukraine
When J.T. saw footage of Ukrainian children fleeing the Russian invasion, and watched everyday Ukrainians pick up arms and defend their homeland, he knew he had to help. So the retired Canadian military vet joined the fight. Last month, he was badly injured by an anti-tank mine while trying to rescue his fellow soldiers. His supporters in Canada are now fundraising to bring him home. He spoke to As It Happens guest host Tom Harrington from a hospital bed in an undisclosed part of Ukraine. CBC is withholding his full name out of concern for his safety.
