A petition has been gaining steam to bring back the film tax credit in Saskatchewan after it was eliminated in 2012. A report commissioned by the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce and SaskFilm in 2012 shows the film industry generated an average of 44-million dollars a year in economic activity, but a Statistics Canada report from 2019 shows annual revenue from the film industry has fallen to about half of what it was in 2009.
The province has implemented programs like Creative Saskatchewan, but is that enough to revive — and maintain — a film industry that once generated millions of dollars in our economy?
