What wearing an orange shirt means to a young Indigenous designer
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation began as "Orange Shirt Day," a campaign inspired by Phyllis Webstad, who had her orange shirt taken from her when she attended a residential school. Orange shirts became a symbol of everything that residential schools took from those children and many Indigenous artists have now created their own take on the design. Mother and daughter designers Sabrina and Shelby Williams spoke with Edmonton AM's Ariel Fournier about the meaning behind the shirts.
