Stella Masty Bearskin comments on what's changed since the Viens report, and the death of Joyce Echaquan
It has been one year since the Viens Commission published its report into how Indigenous people are treated by some of Quebec’s public services, such as health care and policing. We spoke with the president of Cree Women of Eeyou Istchee Association (CWEIA), Stella Masty-Bearskin, to hear what this anniversary means to her. We also spoke about Joyce Echaquan, who died in a Joliette hospital on September 28, 2020, after recording racist insults by hospital staff.
