It’s time to shut down the federal government's COVID Alert app, says digital policy expert

If you’re one of the 6.7 million Canadians who downloaded the COVID Alert app, you might still be getting push notifications saying the app is scanning your surroundings for possible exposure to COVID-19. But a growing number of experts say the app is fundamentally broken and sending nothing but a false sense of comfort to users. Bianca Wylie, a technology and public engagement expert and the co-founder of Digital Public, says the app never really worked as promised and that it’s time for the government to acknowledge that, sunset the app and do a responsible post-mortem.
