Dave Bidini spent years touring Canada as a member of The Rheostatics and he went on to a career as an author and columnist. In all the time as a musician and writer, he travels never took him to the Northwest Territories - that is, until he was invited to speak at the Yellowknife book festival, North Words.
The trip changed his trajectory as the city and events at its local newspaper compelled him to spend six months in town getting to know the place and its people.
Tracking the story took Bidini two years and the result is "Midnight Light - A Personal Journey to the North."
Russell Bowers spoke with Dave Bidini about the story he found and the nature of community newspapers. (And they squeezed in a little hockey talk.)
