Battle of the sexes: 8 facts about men and women that will surprise you
We continue to search for the meaning behind the differences and similarities of two of the biggest mysteries of the world...men and women!
1. Men are better at recognizing flirtatious behaviour compared to women?
Research has found that men fool themselves into thinking someone is romantically interested in them when they aren't, suggesting this is because men have evolved to over perceive sexual interest in a potential female, so they don't miss out on the opportunity to reproduce.
2. When it comes to checking themselves out in the mirror, men do it more times per day than women?
A British study found that an average man looks in the mirror 23 times per day, while women do it only 16 times per day. On average, men spend 10 minutes a day, admiring their reflection, which is as much as 6.5 days per year.
3. Women are far less interested in casual sex than men?
Bit of a trick question! Women are less interested in casual sex but... not "far less". Studies show women would likely have casual sex in the context of casual dating relationships, friendships, or hook-ups with exes, rather than a "random hook up". Women are more likely to have a one night stand with a celebrity or a friend rumoured to be 'good in bed'.
4. Men tend to initiate break-ups and divorce more than women?
Research found that women initiated nearly 70% of all divorces. It's often the woman who expresses more overt conflict and dissatisfaction about the state of the marriage. Men are more likely to be "ok" in a dissatisfying relationship.
5. Men are more likely to be addicted to their smartphones than women?
A study found that 30% more women use their phone for four hours a day or longer. Research finds that one in five women said they have insecure feelings beyond normal when they are separated from their smartphones.
6. Cheesy pick up lines are more likely to work on women than men?
But the Studies are interesting. Even though "cheeky and cheesy" pick-up lines may fall flat, they do get the conversation going and can produce a short term hook up. But if you're looking for a long term partner, guys, you gotta try harder!
7. Men are more likely to initiate having protected sex?
Women are more cautious. Researchers discovered that men were much less interested in wearing a condom if they felt their potential partner had a pretty face. This research adds to a growing body of evidence that both men and women want to relax safe-sex standards for good-looking partners.
8. When it comes to gossip, women do it more often than men?
Men spend an average of 76 minutes a day chatting and gossiping with their friends or work colleagues, compared to just 52 minutes for women. One study reveals that when men and women hear a juicy secret, many men will share it with someone almost immediately after learning about it. Women, on the other hand, keep it to themselves for at least three and a half hours before spreading the news.
