DIY your own farmhouse holiday decorations

Mercury glass candle sticks

Here's what you'll need:

  • Clean wine bottle - label removed
  • Taper candle - to fit into bottle opening
  • Spray bottle with water
  • Krylon 'looking glass' spray paint

Here's how to do it:

  1. Mist inside of bottle with water until you see beads of water
  2. Spray a quick spray of 'looking glass' spray paint inside of bottle. allow to dry.
  3. Repeat steps 4-5 times until desired look is achieved.
  4. Decorate bottle with greens & insert candle

Plastic spoon trees

Here's what you'll need:

  • Plastic spoons
  • Styrofoam cone
  • Hot glue gun
  • Spray paint - hammered finish

Here's how to do it:

  1. Break handles off of plastic spoons. They should snap off easily
  2. Place a dab of hot glue on to the 'neck' of the spoon and adhere to styrofoam cone starting at the bottom. Continue all the way up until the cone is covered
  3. Spray paint the tree in well ventilated area and allow to dry

Twig star ornaments

Here's what you'll need:

  • Small twigs
  • Hot glue gun
  • Thick wool yarn

Here's how to do it:

  1. Clean and trim twigs to equal lengths
  2. Lay out twigs in a star pattern and hot glue twigs together where they meet at the corners
  3. For extra support, wrap glued areas with raffia or twine
  4. Wrap entire star in wool yarn until completely covered.
  5. Tie one length of yarn to top of star to hang on tree

Wood veneer trees

Here's what you'll need:

  • Wood veneer sheets ([available at hardware stores)
  • Titanium scissors
  • White chalk or white craft paint
  • Pencil
  • Mini urn
  • Florist foam
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Hot glue gun
  • Decorative moss

Here's how to do it:

  1. Using a pencil, freehand draw the outline of a Christmas tree. Cut it out with scissors
  2. Apply white chalk or white craft paint on edges. Smudge with finger to get an aged look
  3. Place florists foam into urn.
  4. Hot glue 1/2 of the popsicle stick to the back of veneer tree. Push the other 1/2 into the florist foam
  5. Place moss around the base of the tree
