Spanish Sailboat visits Happy Valley Goose Bay port

spanish boat 1.jpgPakea Bizkaia It’s been decades since Basque whalers and fisherman came to the shores of Labrador. But this week, a sailboat from the Basque region of Spain is back in this part of the province. The crew on board the Pakea Bizkaia is studying marine bio-diversity from Greenland to Quebec. It’s an educational project for youth back in Europe. But the crew on board the sailboat is also getting a history lesson. They’re stopping in Red Bay in a couple of days to visit the fishing grounds that were so important to their ancestors. Unai Basurko is the Captain. Our Tara McLean spoke to him while they were docked in Happy Valley - Goose Bay.
