Tennis: Novak Djokovic needed four hours and 57 minutes on July 14, 2019 to defeat Roger Federer in the longest Wimbledon final ever.
Basketball: The longest game in NBA history was played on Jan. 6, 1951 between the Indianapolis Olympians and the Rochester Royals. After a record six overtime periods lasting 78 minutes, the Olympians won 75-73.
Hockey: The longest game in NHL history was played on March 24, 1936 between the Detroit Red Wings and the Montreal Maroons. After 176 minutes and 30 seconds, Detroit won in the sixth overtime period when Mud Bruneteau scored the game’s only goal.
Baseball: The game between the Pawtucket Red Sox and the Rochester Red Wings that began on April 18, 1981 at 8:25pm lasted more than eight hours before being stopped at 4 am. When play resumed two months later, The Red Sox won in the 33rd inning 3-2.
Pool/Billiards: 1985’s World Championship final between Dennis Taylor and Steve Davis took almost 15 hours. Taylor won the trophy.
Cricket: On March 3, 1939, a match between England and South Africa lasted 43 hours and 16 minutes over the course of 12 days. It ended in a draw because the team from England had to catch their boat home.
