We all pollute. Now it’s going to cost us

The federal government says Canadians no longer have a choice. You pollute? You pay.
How will you pay? With a carbon tax. Every province and territory has to have a system for putting a price on pollution. If they don’t already, they have to start using the federal government’s plan in 2019.
A carbon tax means Canadians will have to pay more for: - gas for vehicles, - fuel for heating homes - and power for lights and electronics. Many of these activities use fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas.
When burned, fossil fuels produce greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, which are contributing to global warming. The point of a carbon tax? To discourage people from burning as many fossil fuels. The ultimate goal is to slow down climate change.
Some say it’s not fair for the government to ask Canadians to pay more. Especially for everyday essentials like heat and electricity.
