The Jiggle Jiggle sound has been wiggling all over TikTok for the past month. Users have been performing a dance that mimes the lyrics. Pop superstar Shakira, pictured here, even performed that dance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on May 16.
BBC journalist Louis Theroux co-wrote the rap with hip-hop artists Reese and Bigalow way back in 2000. At the time it was featured in an episode of the BBC show Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends.
The Duke & Jones version has been used in 6.6 million TikToks. It’s made its way to other platforms like Instagram and has even been released as a single.
Two decades later, the rap exploded after Theroux recounted the lyrics in an interview. It was then clipped and autotuned by music producers Duke & Jones, who uploaded it to TikTok.
“I’m pleased that people are enjoying the rap,” Theroux told the New York Times in an article from June 22. But he said has “mixed feelings” about it being what he is best known for. He added that his 14-year-old son thinks it’s “cringe.”
