Fans and celebrities are mourning the death of rapper Nipsey Hussle.

The 33-year-old was shot on Sunday outside his store, Marathon Clothing in Los Angeles.

Police are investigating.

Marathon Clothing was more than just a store — it was designed to help at-risk youth in the city.

And Hussle is being remembered for the positive impact he made in the neighbourhood, South Side, where he grew up and where he opened the shop.

Fellow rapper Snoop Dogg called Hustle “a champion” for the work he did.

As a teenager, Hussle was involved in street life and eventually joined a gang.

It’s a lifestyle he was hoping to steer kids in that neighbourhood away from, through his store, which is also a safe place to hang out.

“We wanted to use a model like Starbucks where there’s an experience in it,” he told Billboard.com in 2017. “It’s free WiFi, you can come and get some work done.”

In Oct. 2018, he worked with shoe company Puma to refurbish a basketball court in Los Angeles to encourage more kids to play the sport.

Hussle was also actively working to reduce gang violence, according to Los Angeles police Commissioner Steve Soboroff.

Sobroff tweeted that the two had a meeting scheduled today “to talk about ways he could help stop gang violence and help us help kids.”

Nipsey Hussle’s music career kicked off after he released a mixtape that he sold out of the trunk of his car.

In 2013, Jay-Z bought 100 copies, for $100 each and sent him a $10,000 cheque.

Earlier this year, he was nominated for a Grammy.

A large crowd gathered outside the store on Sunday evening to pay tribute to him.

On Instagram, Rihanna posted a photo of Hussle with his daughter.

Hussle had two kids and was engaged to actress Lauren London.

Two other people were shot alongside Hussle and were transported to hospital. They are in stable condition.
