Sekou Kaba

Why They're Awesome

Started running track at age 11

He is the third oldest of seven siblings

Loves listening to ethereal sounds on his iPod and can spend hours looking for new tracks

He’s an aspiring photographer and is constantly scouting, shooting and editing photos

Every once in awhile Sekou enjoys peanut butter cookies because it makes him happy!

The Kaba family is originally from Conakry, Guinea and immigrated to the U.S.A. in 2001, then Canada in 2007. He had never heard of track and field in Guinea but was drawn to athletes training when he went to his new school in Michigan.

He broke the CIS Championship hurdles record of 7.79 seconds, a mark held by 1992 Olympic gold medallist Mark McKoy.
