Earth Day: You Won’t Believe What’s Growing in your Fridge

Bet you had no idea that garlic is alive and well in your fridge! In fact, if you have some garlic kicking around the kitchen, you can easily grow your own in a matter of days.

Here’s what to do:

Take a few garlic cloves and put them in a cup of water. Place them near a window and leave them. Within 2-4 days you will see roots at one end and a sprout at the other. Amazing! When your shoot is getting too long for the cup, plant it in some dirt. We used little peat pots found at the dollar store and filled them with potting soil. Push your garlic clove (roots down - sprout up)  into the dirt. Place them near the window and water everyday. When the green shoot grows tall, you can clip some off and use them in your salad or just eat as is. Watch out — they can be spicy!!
