Helmet School in Charlottetown

Posted by Bill van Asperen

HelmetSchoolx4.jpgDozens of Islanders spent the morning in helmet school in Charlottetown on Saturday. In exchange for waiving their ticket, cyclists who were caught riding without a helmet attended a session about brain injuries. For many, the day was more than a good deal. It was an eye-opener. Nanette Johnston got one of the 114 tickets the Charlottetown Police handed out this summer. She started by telling Pat Faller about how she got a ticket in the first place.

Helmet School Offers Important Safety Lesson

Posted by Bill van Asperen

TracyPerryDavidDodds.jpgJordan Perry's family are big believers in bicycle helmets. Jordan died 18 months after he was in an accident without his helmet. This weekend, his mom Tracy will be giving a talk to people who were ticketed this summer in Charlottetown for NOT wearing theirs. City police say they gave out 114 tickets, but if they attend the helmet education session, they won't have to pay the 175 dollar fine. The helmet education session will be held tomorrow at the Murphy Centre, starting at 9 a.m. Matt Rainnie went to Summerside to talk to Tracy and her dad David Dodds about Jordan and what they hope others can learn from their experience.
