From Shakespeare to Sondheim

ShakespeareSondheim.jpgThe Holland College School of Performing Arts is showcasing a variety show of talents this weekend, featuring the first-ever graduating class of the two-year Dance and Theatre Performance programs.

Island Morning's Lindsay Carroll went down to the Mack, where rehearsals for three different parts of the musical "Into the Woods" were underway. She spoke with second year Holland College performing arts student Jacob Durdan and dance instructor Taran Verkerk.

Journalism Program at UPEI

HollandCollegeUPEI.jpgHolland College journalism students planning to continue on to do two years at UPEI got a bit of a shock yesterday. The UPEI website says it has suspended intake to the program for this coming year. Usually, five to eight students opt to do what's called the "two plus two" program shared between Holland College and UPEI.  Don Desserud is the Journalism Programme Coordinator at UPEI.

Kestrel Banding and Nest Box Program

KestrelsBanding.jpgAt about 20 centimeters long, the American Kestrels is the smallest falcon in North America.  A group of Holland College students are trying to help increase the Kestrel population by creating nesting boxes and banding them. Dwaine Oakley is the learning manager for the Wildlife Conservation Technology Program at Holland College.
