Unlikely ranch hands and dangerous poaching rings in the next episode of Heartland

Posted on Oct 30, 2014

So, it's time for another new episode in the Heartland saga to premiere across Canada this Sunday. With the first five episodes of season 8 behind us but still firmly in our memories, I hope you are all up for an exciting new episode. I know I am!

Before I go into detail on what you might expect in three days, I want to first of all thank all the fans across the country who continue to make Heartland the hit series it is. The season 8 audience numbers are outstanding and I can’t wait to read all the Sunday comments from Heartlanders in St. John’s, Newfoundland to Port Hardy, BC.

To put it simply, Heartland's longevity is because you all have been watching it and for that I thank you whole heartedly, on behalf of the crew, the cast and of course the CBC.

Now I also have a brief update on Heartland’s American broadcaster, UPtv, who broadcasts new episodes on Sunday evenings across the USA. Originally they were going to run season 7 over 18 straight weeks, concluding this December 24 with episode 718.

Instead they decided to halt airing the new episodes a couple of weeks back after playing 709. Yes, poor Amy has been knocked out, and 710 will not air until January, 2015. That’s the bad news. The good news is that once 710 is broadcast UPtv will then air 711 through 718 and shortly after they will start broadcasting season 8, meaning that sometime in September of next year UPtv will have the US caught up with Canada. No mean feat considering they were over 3 seasons behind when they started airing the series. So congratulations to them as well.

Getting back to Canada and speaking of season 7, have you purchased your DVDs yet? They are available in retail outlets in Canada and of course through Amazon. Many non-Canadians order through Amazon and are pleased with the short period of time before the DVDs arrive.

Oh, and before I forget -- there's a brand new entry in Lou's journal -- check it out right here (and you've finished reading this blog post, of course!)

Also, check out this video: It's a look at how a bear replica was created for last Sunday's episode:

Now let me get to the heart of the matter - this upcoming Sunday’s episode, which brings us to the one-third mark of the season.

The episode is simply titled “Steal Away.” Written by Pamela Pinch and directed by Anne Wheeler, this one promises to be quite exciting. (Check out the preview here, and come back to the blog tomorrow to check out the first four minutes of the episode!)

In the episode, Amy initially blames Georgie and Jade when a client horse repeatedly escapes from his stall, but she is forced to re-evaluate when she discovers that the horse has hidden skills. Meanwhile, when his boss at the Reserve refuses to help him bring down a dangerous poaching ring, Ty is forced to turn to Scott for assistance. And Jack enlists Georgie’s help to turn the reluctant Jade into a ranch hand.

There’s a lot of working with horses and protecting animals. I don’t think anyone has a problem with that. Don’t worry, there’s some Amy & Ty stuff as well. It’s just everyone is so darn busy there just can’t be as much as some of us might like!

Again, this is a prince-free episode (as in Ahmed is nowhere to be seen) which I know will keep a lot of you happy. Check out the photos on this page if you don’t believe me.)

I don’t have anything else to share, other than to advise you all to use the usual caution this Halloween weekend. If you are out trick or treating, watch for cars and other vehicles on the road. If you are going to a party have fun but please don’t eat too many treats; you might regret it later.

However you are spending tomorrow and Saturday, do it in a safe and fun way so you will have nothing distracting you on Sunday evening when you gather around the television for family hour - 7:00pm to 8:00pm on CBC - to watch television’s favourite family drama.

The 127th episode of Heartland; who would have thought it?

And next week I'll be back with news and pictures from Heartland’s next new episode, the 128th episode (also known as episode 807).

Until then I remain - as always - obediently yours.
