New photos and a Fan Extras Update!

Posted on Aug 30, 2018

Here's an important update for everyone who sent in an email to register for the September 5 Fans as Extras Day, and the chance to be in a season 12 episode of Heartland.

First of all, production wants to thank you all again for your enthusiasm and for your love of the series. More people applied to be among the hundreds needed next Wednesday than the venue can handle. In fact, more people applied last Thursday - August 23 - alone than the venue can handle, so here is what you need to know if you are wondering if you have been accepted or not: 1) If you sent in your email later than last Thursday, August 23 you did not make the cut. Sorry. 2) If you did send in your email last Thursday before 11:30pm MT you are in. To make sure there is no confusion production will send an email by end of day today to anyone who applied last Thursday who is NOT being accepted. 3) If you sent in your email and have been accepted you will receive a second email with instructions, a map and a photo release form by the end of day tomorrow (Friday, August 31). And by end of day that means midnight.

Congratulations to all who will be taking part in the production scenes. If past Fans as Extra Days are any indication you should have a blast!

It's been a couple of weeks since a selection of production photos were posted, so here is a mixture of new pictures taken over the past few weeks. There are some shot during filming, some taken of horses, including the fiberglass horse which stands outside of Maggie's Diner in High River, and the top photo gives you an idea how thick the haze was from the smoke of the forest fires in British Columbia. This year has been the smokiest one on record for both the province of Alberta and for the Calgary, High River and Millarville area where Heartland is filmed. It made filming difficult, but enduring the thick smoke is better than the actual fire. Hopefully, Alberta's neighbouring province to the west can extinguish and control the blazes which have ravaged their province this summer.

Speaking of summer, although there is still three weeks of summer left officially, school is starting soon and this weekend will be the last long weekend until the fall. Enjoy it as much as you can. The blog will return next Thursday with more Heartland news and photographs.
