In case you missed it yesterday…

Yesterday was a very special day for Heartland, as the Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF) announced this year's festival would be celebrating a decade of Heartland at a Saturday,October 1 event in Calgary. This was the announcement made yesterday, which I had posted about in last week's blog.

There will be a red carpet in front of Flames Central on Stephen Avenue, with guests arriving from 5:00pm on. Amber Marshall, Shaun Johnston, Graham Wardle and Alisha Newton have already confirmed, as well as Stormy (ever seen a horse walk a red carpet before?).

Once inside the cast & crew will be joined by hundreds of film festival and Heartland fans and treated to a Q&A with the cast and department heads, including showrunner Heather Conkie and producer Jamie Paul Rock, followed by the very first public screening of episode 1001 - the season premiere of season 10.

Both the red carpet and the Q&A will be streamed live on our Heartland on CBC Facebook Page. By scheduling the screening after the Q&A we will guarantee no spoilers from the season premiere will leak out (Are we all clever or what?).

After the screening there will be refreshments and mingling. All in all it will be a great night for CIFF and for Heartland.

Today we have learned that tickets for this event have been purchased by fans overseas in Finland (7,110 KM from Calgary) and from Sydney, Australia (13,162 KM from Calgary), as well as from the maritime provinces, the province of Ontario, and the states of Texas, California and Arkansas. How's that for showing Heartland's international appeal?

And here's the great news - there are still lots of tickets available! Tickets to the event are $45.00 CDN and are on sale now at www.calgaryfilm.com. If you've purchased your tickets, great. If not - you still have time. But everyone is expecting this event to sell out so now you know. Oh, and there are no age restrictions for getting into this event; after all, Heartland is television's favourite family drama.

So that's the only news I have, other than to point out the photo at the top of the page here, which was taken at the Heartland ranch set at the studio, as Stephen Schroeder, executive director of CIFF announced the gala evening. Sitting to his left (right side of the photo) is Heartland executive producer Tom Cox. In the centre, leaning on the railing is producer Jamie Paul Rock and to his left that's Heather Conkie taking a photo. The others are all media who have been reporting the good news and spreading the word.

But I did promise some series news, so how about script names for episodes 1008 and 1009?

EPISODE 1008 is titled, "Here and Now," and is directed by Chris Potter from a script by Ken Craw.

EPISODE 1009 is titled, "A Horse With No Rider," and is directed by Dean Bennett from a script by Heather Conkie.

There - this is a fun blog, isn't it? Event news and series news, and let's finish off with the countdown to Heartland's October 2 premiere of season 10 on CBC. By taking off seven additional days we find our waiting period is...66 days until Canada gets to watch the continuing saga of Canada's longest running one-hour drama.

We'll take another seven days off next week. Until then I remain, as always, obediently yours.
