Gearing up for Sept. 28

Posted on Sep 4, 2014

I’m sure you've heard of the term “a baker’s dozen.” It basically means 13, from days gone by when an order of 12 (a regular dozen) would have an extra loaf or bun or cookie thrown in. Why exactly this happened goes back centuries and arguments break out among scholars when you choose one explanation over another, so let’s just leave it at a baker’s dozen = 13.

Why is this important as far as Heartland’s Wait for Eight is concerned? Well, it so happens that from the moment you are reading this (assuming you are reading this on Thursday, September 4) there are exactly 2 dozen sleeps until September 28, when the season 8 premiere is aired on CBC. Not 2 baker’s dozens. Nope - we are talking 2 x 12 = 24 sleeps before television’s favourite family drama starts broadcasting across Canada.

So this countdown is going to be over before we know it. Alright, we will know it, but it is going to zip by.

You’ve undoubtedly noticed we have a new design on this site and also on the Heartland on CBC social media sites (including Facebook, Twitter and Vine). What do you think of the new look? Let me know in the comments section below.

I hope you are all aware that I'm looking for videos, self-made testimonials telling us why you love Heartland. We even have a new hashtag #WhyILoveHeartland so I can find the creative videos Heartlanders have made. I've seen a lot them coming in each day; why not add yours to the mix? Let's show the world how a great television series attracts great fans! Check out this past Tuesday's blog for more info.

Now I'm sure most of you are aware that Cruise with a Cause was a success. A lot of cast went on the ride last week and raised some nice coin for Sophie’s House in Surrey, BC.

Well, the fundraising isn’t ending there. Production donated a set visit for four and it is being auctioned off online. Interested in coming to Calgary and spending a day on set? You have until midnight, September 13 (And that’s midnight Pacific Time). Take a look - here’s the link!

So this US network, which was nearly 4 years behind, will be only half a season behind in December and by next summer will have played all the episodes that will have been seen in Canada. That’s pretty impressive stuff!

And to clarify, Netflix in the US cannot stream Heartland episodes until they have aired on UPtv, so those of you wanting seasons 6 and 7 to be added, you will have to wait a while. Expect those to go up on Netflix next year.

That’s pretty well it. I'll have a few surprises over the upcoming few weeks and I know we will all have a lot of fun waiting for season 8 to start.

None of us would want it any other way.

Until my next post I remain, as always, obediently yours.

And of course, let’s close off with the countdown staple, Tick… Tick… Tick…
