Happy New Year! Bring on 2017!

Posted on Dec 29, 2016

Yes, I'm jumping the gun because we still have two more sleeps before we stay up late and celebrate the arrival of 2017 and bid - depending on your state of mind - a fond farewell or a lasting good riddance to 2016.

The other night I was reading an "in memoriam" article in my local METRO newspaper. It listed celebrities who died in 2016. Since that was written musician George Michael and actors Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds have passed away. It certainly seems like there were a lot of well known people we've known for years who are no longer with us.

On Facebook the other day I asked how everyone's year has gone and there were many replies from fans who had a great 2016. But there were also many heartfelt comments from followers who had personal tragedies this year, from illnesses to losses of jobs, and losses of loved ones.

If you've had a great year in 2016 I wish you more of the same in 2017. And if this year coming to an end has been unkind to you I sincerely hope the next year brings you much joy and prosperity.

We get many comments from people who rely on Heartland as a series they can watch and it makes them feel happy. I'm thrilled to read these comments knowing that Heartland is accomplishing what it set out to do - tell stories the whole family can enjoy. To you reading this and to everyone who watches television's favourite family drama, I hope this can continue.

Heartland returns to CBC with new episodes on Sunday,January 15 at its regular family hour time of 7:00pm on Sunday (7:30pm in Newfoundland). Because the next episode - 1010 answers many questions asked in episode 1009, on Sunday January 8 episode 1009 will be repeated across Canada on CBC.

This Sunday? It's New Year's Day and let's get it off to a great start shall we?

I thought since much of Canada saw snow on the ground these past few days I would haul out never seen before photos from season 8 - all of which have a common theme of snow lying on the ground. Some of them are unused production stills and some are unit stills which never made the final cut, but today they are posted here - 14 of them (!) for your enjoyment.

Next week, with my first blog post of 2017 I will return with more photos and some news regarding how the last half of season 10 will unfold.

Today however I'll sign off my last blog post of 2016 the same way I started it - by wishing each and every one of you a Happy New Year!
