Greta's Answers

Last week you sent in questions for Greta Onieogou (a.k.a. Amy's best friend Soraya), and as promised, here are her answers! Click-o-rama!

Q: Hey Greta! I absolutely love Soraya. I think she's the friend that all us Heartland Fans wish we had with us. I almost died laughing in episode 304 when you and Kerry did the whole Jack Nicholson "Here's JOHNNY!" and how Ashley was SO jealous of Soraya because she thought he was hitting on her! Anyways, to my question: What's the funniest thing that has happened to you when filming one of your scenes in the diner/store? Thanks for your time Greta, can't wait to see more of you!
Posted by: Siyetka on February 01, 2010 at 02:34 PM

A: Thanks so much Siyetka! Filming at "Maggie's" is always a lot of fun! One of the funniest things that has happened is, because our crew did such a wonderful job making this set look as authentic as possible, once in a while some pedestrian will walk in asking if we were open! We always tell them as politely as possible that it's not a real diner, but a film set. Unless someone walks by with a camera or really big light first, then they figure it out on their own!

Q: Hi you are such a good actor and you suit her role very well!!!!!! My question is, if you could have another job what would it be and why?
Posted by: Molly Johnson on February 01, 2010 at 03:01 PM

A: Thanks Molly!!!!!!! If I couldn't act, I would be happy doing just about anything else in the film industry, even if it meant running around getting people coffee haha! But honestly, I absolutely love acting and find it hard to imagine myself doing anything else.

Q: OMG I'm a huge fan, and love you on the show! I think its great that your character is always there for Amy, and they really stayed true to the books with Soraya and you do a deadly, (sorry very Irish word- im Irish btw!) job of portraying her. My question is, which of all the episodes is the three seasons so far was your favourite to shoot, and why? You're doing an amazing job and thank you for taking your time to answer these questions
Posted by: Emma on February 01, 2010 at 03:30 PM

A: My favourite episode to shoot in all three seasons was actually this year's finale which hasn't aired yet. Hopefully you'll enjoying watching it as much as I enjoyed filming it! Thanks so much for your support Emma!

Q: Hi Greta! I've got to say that I love your character on Heartland, and your character on Overruled! My question is: How difficult is it to juggle the Heartland schedule with the Overruled! schedule?
Posted by: Nikki on February 01, 2010 at 05:06 PM

A: Overruled! and Heartland were actually filmed at different dates in the year, so they didn't conflict at all. I am really lucky to have gotten to work with two such wonderful cast and crews! Thanks for watching both shows Nikki!

Q: Hey Greta! I thunk you are sooooooooo pretty and you are perfect for Soraya! My question is: who is your best friend out of the actors you work with? Great great great job in heartland Greta! You are amazing!
Posted by: Margaret on February 01, 2010 at 05:18 PM

A: Thank you sooooooooo much Margaret, what a compliment! One of my favourite people to work with on set is Cindy Busby, who plays Ashley. She's one of the funniest and most genuine people I've ever met. It's impossible to be in a bad mood with her around. We always have a ton of fun filming those diner scenes together!

Q: Hey Greta! you are such a good actor!! And it's so cool that you were born in Russia, I'm Polish and Ukrainian.. close enough. haha! Anyways my question for you is.. what do you like to do on your days off?
Posted by: Sonya on February 01, 2010 at 05:29 PM

A: On my days off in Calgary love to shop and watch movies! Taxes in Alberta are almost 10% less than Ontario's which is a huge plus, and something I never fail to take advantage of! I also always have a good deal of homework I have to get done, which is not something I necessarily LIKE to do, but is a staple activity in my days off. Thanks for your kind words Sonya!!

Q: Hey Greta! Soraya's such a nice character, she adds a bit of sanity to a dramatic show... she's also one of my favourite characters, mind. You play her so well, and I really enjoy the scenes you have with Cindy and Amber. So, on to my question. I'm going a bit unconventional with this one and asking something completely unrelated to Heartland. I remember seeing you on the Disney Channel original series Overruled, playing Vanessa, Rusty's girlfriend. So, my question is, does Nick Spencer have a Scottish accent in real life, or is that the result of a dialect coach?
Posted by: Milly on February 01, 2010 at 05:40 PM

A: It's 100% real Milly!

Q: Hey Greta, I'm a big fan of yours!! So what is it like to be the one born the farthest from Alberta, and one more question... how do you like Canada?? When did you move here???
Posted by: Jessica on February 01, 2010 at 06:00 PM

A: I absolutely love Canada! My family moved to Toronto from St. Petersburg when I was 5 so I pretty much grew up here, but Russia is wonderful and I still have a lot of family back there. Thanks for your support Jessica!

Q: Greta, In the show you are Amy's best friend! When you first auditioned for Heartland did you audition for Soraya or a different character? I have so many more questions but the others are probably already going to be asked so I thought this one would be good!
Posted by: Nadine on February 01, 2010 at 06:09 PM

A: Yep, Soraya was the first and only role I auditioned for on "Heartland." Fun fact - I actually missed my first audition for the show. I got my audition time completely wrong and showed up an hour too late, with everything closed and everyone long gone. Luckily, my wonderful agent was able to get me another one, and the rest is history! Thanks for the question Nadine!

Q: Greta, First off, I think you're absolutely great playing Soraya, I just wished they'd give you some more screen time, a little more of a storyline. I truly love the way that everyone is coming together, creating a friend posse - Soraya, Amy, Ashley, Ty and Caleb (what's missing...oh yeah, a boyfriend for your character). My best memories from my teens is the friend posse, we went everywhere together and got in and outta trouble together!!! My question is as follows: Why do you enjoy acting? What is it about the whole acting experience that makes it truly worthwhile? Thanks again Greta for taking the time to answer our questions, and good luck in season 4...(ummm...Heartland folks, you need to get Soraya a bigger story line!!!)
Posted by: Dalaigh on February 02, 2010 at 07:25 AM

A: Acting is something I've been doing from a very young age, and I was lucky enough to have super supportive parents who helped to nurture and develop my passion. It's something that I always enjoyed doing, and I can't be sure why, it just resonates with me. I love everything from stepping into someone else's shoes and telling a story, to working with an amazing cast and crew. Really glad you're enjoying the show! Thanks for all your kind words, Dalaigh!

Q: Hey Greta!! I'm so excited to hear your answers!!! we don't get to see you as much as some of the other actors/actresses on Heartland, and now I'm so excited at the prospect of getting to know you a little better! i think you do an awesome job portraying Soraya, she is exactly how i imagined her from the books, she's just cooler:) i thing Soraya is a very important character because she sees so much, and is such a great friend:) anywhoo, i was wondering if you would someday like to write or direct, or just stick to acting?? thank you co much!! looking forward to your answers:)
Posted by: countrygurl twin on February 02, 2010 at 09:16 AM

A: Well countrygurl twin, I do a lot of writing in my spare time so if given the opportunity, it is definitely something I would love to do in the future!

Q: hey Greta. you rock. what is something someone might not know about you?
Posted by: crazycowgirl on February 02, 2010 at 04:59 PM

A: Something people may not know about me is that I am fluent in Russian! Also, I used to be a rhythmic gymnast and even got to work with Olympian Alexandra Orlando for a couple of months! There's two fun facts for you crazycowgirl! Thanks for your support!

Q: Hey Greta! First off you do a great job playing Soraya in Heartland. You are like the dream friend that everyone wants to have. Is it hard playing scenes where you are mad at characters (like Ashley) and keeping a straight face? Thanks so much!!
Posted by: PonyHuntersRock!! on February 02, 2010 at 05:13 PM

A: It can be sometimes. There have been times where I've had to try really hard not to laugh, and other times where it was no problem at all. Dream friend! Wow! Thank YOU!

Q: Hi Greta, I think you do a fantastic job on Heartland. You make us feel as if Soraya could be anyone's best friend, she's so genuine and likable (which I'm sure you are too!) So what's it like working on Heartland? Take us through your day a bit...early wake up call? long drive to the set? cold Alberta winds? What is your most favorite and least favorite thing about filming the show?
Posted by: Peg on February 02, 2010 at 05:31 PM

A: Thanks Peg! Well, wake up calls can vary from 5 am to 5 pm. It all depends on what sorts of scenes we're filming, and what time of day they take place in. The drives also vary dramatically, but are usually no longer than 45-ish minutes. Unless of course a snowstorm decides to terrorize the city, in which case it's taken me 2 hours just to get from the airport to downtown. My favourite thing about the show would have to be our amazing cast and crew. Least favourite, early mornings, but sometimes the drivers will stop by a coffee shop on the way to set, and a delicious warm beverage first thing in the morning always puts a smile on my face!

Q: Hey Greta! First off, I would like to say that you are a great actress and I enjoy seeing you in Heartland! You do a great job portraying Soraya! My question is, do you have any pets, and if so, what are their names? Thanks!
Posted by: Melanie on February 03, 2010 at 05:48 PM

A: Unfortunately Melanie I don't have any pets, but I used to have a black and orange newt named Nikki. If my dad weren't allergic to any living creature with fur on it, I would love to have a pug!

Q:Hello Greta! My question for you is "What books are you reading right now?" btw, you are a very good actor and a great addition to Heartland! good job! Bye!
Posted by: Amanda on February 03, 2010 at 06:33 PM

A: Thanks so much Amanda! Right now I am reading a great book (for school, but don't hold that against it) called "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley. Last book I read out of my own free will was "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold. I think the movie is still in theatres!

Q: Hello, Greta! First of all, you're doing a great job playing Soraya. Although I didn't imagine her to look like you when I read the books, now I can't imagine her looking like anyone else. My question is, if you could play any other role in the Heartland series, who would you play and why? Thanks!
Posted by: Laura on February 04, 2010 at 03:07 PM

A: I would play Ashley, because then I would get to drive that awesome BMW instead of Soraya's rust bucket haha! But really, Ashley is a really strong character and has seen so much growth and development. She's really matured and made this remarkable transition from this stone cold ice queen into an actual human being capable of exhibiting emotion, and that's why I would chose her. But I Soraya holds a special place in my heart, rust bucket and all! Thanks for your question Laura!

Well, that's all folks! Thank you SO MUCH Greta!
