17 Days to the NEW Season Premiere!

Posted on Sep 15, 2016

Time has a way of flying by, doesn't it?

Next Thursday's blog will be on the first day of autumn - September 22, and then the very next Thursday will be my first of 18 previews ahead of a new Sunday at 7:00pm broadcast of Heartland. The season 10 premiere on CBC is now just seventeen (17 - count 'em) days away. How exciting is that for everyone in Canada who has waited nearly half a year since they first heard Amy speak the words "Ty - you're going to be a father."

So yes, we are tick... tick...ticking away towards the brand new season of television's favourite family drama.

Accompanying this blog I have posted two photos of director Bruce McDonald from the very first days of production back in May. The top photo is Bruce walking away from where Ty's truck is parked with gorgeous scenery all around, and the second photo captured Bruce, Kevin McGarry (as Mitch) and Shaun Johnston (as Jack) on day 1 of the very first day of filming, catching up between scenes.

I'm focussing on Mr. McDonald because we just found out today that Bruce will be flying out to attend the October 1 screening of episode 1001 - Heartland's 10th season premiere - when it shows as part of the Calgary International Film Festival's gala honouring Heartland. So that should be a special evening for the cast & crew and the fans who have purchased tickets for the event. More on that next week.

Now, some of you fans may want to get caught up ahead of the October 2 premiere. There are several ways to do so. Netflix in Canada now has season 9 added to the previous eight seasons, CBC has season 9 available online (for Canadians only) and, if you want to watch the last two episodes of season 9, they will air back to back starting at 7:00pm on CBC on Sunday, September 25. You'll be able to watch episode 917 at 7:00pm, immediately followed by episode 918 at 8:00pm.

There is no episode being screened this Sunday, for CBC is covering the closing ceremony of the Rio2016 Paralympic Games in Brazil. But having two episodes in a row on September 25 will make up for that, no?

On the production front, everything is moving along nicely. By the beginning of October two thirds of the season will have been filmed. Then there will be six more episodes to shoot resulting in a full decade of the longest running one-hour dramatic series in Canadian television history. Norma Bailey is on set today, filming day 5 of her 15-day shoot that will cover episodes 1011 and 1012. Meanwhile director Gail Harvey is in prep, getting ready to film episodes 1013 and 1014 as soon as Norma's block is complete.

I hope all Heartlanders everywhere have had a wonderful summer. In the Millarville / High River / Calgary area where Heartland is filmed it's been a pretty wet summer, by Alberta standards, but right now the weather is fabulous; sunny and warm. Let's hope this holds for Tuesday, September 27, when the big Fans-as Extras day takes place.

I should touch on that day for a moment. Last Friday the notice went out to everyone who was accepted, and early next week there will be a follow up email sent with releases attached as well as a map to the filming location. It should be a great day and it should look epic when the episode hits the screen in January!

So that's all this week, friends & fans. Enjoy the last official weekend of the summer of 2016. I'll be back faithfully next Thursday with more info, news and photos.

Until then I will remain, as always, obediently yours.
