Quebec warns Strateco Matoush project to be turned down

Quebec's Sustainable Development and Environment minister has given Strateco Resources notice that a refusal to develop the Matoush project near Mistissini is on the way.  Yves- Francois Blanchet says the company has 60 days to get social acceptance of the project from the Crees of James Bay. Strateco is looking for advanced exploration approval for a proposed Uranium Mine in the Otish Mountains near Mistissini. Joshua Loon spoke with the Chief of Mistissini, Richard Shecapio and with the president and CEO of Strateco Resources, Guy Hebert. Hebert says the Crees started to turn against the project in 2010.

Candidates for Grand Chief of Cree Nation take part in CBC debate

GCC, OJ and BlackRock sign mine IBA

The Grand Council of the Crees/Cree Regional Authority, the Oujé-Bougoumou Cree Nation and BlackRock Metals signed an Impact and Benefit Agreement on June 20th. The previous week, consultations were held in OJ as well as surrounding communities about the proposed iron-ore and vanadium open-pit mine in the traditional territory of Oujé-Bougoumou. Philip Awashish is a member of the environmental review board. Joshua Loon spoke with him to find out if it was routine that an IBA would be signed so quickly after consultations.
