Did your great grandfather fight in the Great War? Did your great grandmother heal wounds?
CBC, Galafilm Productions and Morag Loves Company are joining forces to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War and commemorate the bloody destruction of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment at the battle of Beaumont-Hamel in France on July 1st, 1916.
The battle lasted 22 minutes and changed Newfoundland and Newfoundlanders for all time. The Regiment suffered 90 percent casualties. Only 68 soldiers answered roll call the following morning.
As we did for the CBC Great War series (2007), we are recruiting a company of Newfoundland descendants from across Canada to take part in an epic film re-creation of the Beaumont-Hamel battle.
We are also collecting WW1 ancestors stories for our new media memory project that will accompany our documentary film. For more information or to enlist or to share your ancestors’ stories, visit our website or facebook page.
