Portraits from inside prisons provide glimpse into a hidden world

Artist Alyse Emdur published a book of prisoners posed in front of backdrops during family visits.

Nothing is more precious to prison couples than their photos; a visual stand-in for the loved one missing from everyday life.  Los Angeles based visual artist Alyse Emdur wanted to draw attention to the love, loss and freedom of this moment of photography in her book, Prison Landscapes, that she started for very personal reasons.
