Like a runaway stagecoach on a badlands trail, The Cowboy takes you on a thrilling ride through the American West as immortalized by some of Hollywood’s greatest stars like Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, and Steve McQueen, great directors like Eastwood, John Ford, and Sergio Leone, and the exciting history of the Western all the way from 1903's Great Train Robbery to Stagecoach, Shane, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Searchers, The Magnificent Seven, and Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, through to modern classics like Unforgiven and Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. Tales of legendary lawmen like Wyatt Earp and “Wild Bill” Hickok, infamous outlaws like Jesse James and Billy the Kid, and epic showdowns like the Gunfight at the OK Corral—The Cowboy retells that Hollywood history with a line-up of the greatest Western films and TV series, taking you behind the scenes and onto the set with archival photos and footage, classic newsreels, timeless images and rare film posters, paired with an evocative score. The magic of recreating Western mythology is recounted in interviews with onscreen heroes like Anson Mount, Adam Beach, and Rex Linn, deliciously evil villains like Bruce Dern and Colm Meaney, actor and producer Seth MacFarlane, historians like Doug Brode and Philip Armour, the creators of the hit series Hell on Wheels, and the stunt performers who face real danger in bringing the violence of the Old West back to life.
