Scrap is a love letter to the things we use in our daily lives. The environmental art documentary, produced and directed by Stacey Tenenbaum, introduces us to people who have found inventive uses for objects that have reached their “end of life.” Tony Inglis and his family have lovingly restored more than 2,000 British phone booths, which have since turned up in gardens and movies and on the streets of London; artist John Lopez makes life-size sculptures out of discarded farm equipment and bronze castings; and the team at Shinslab Architecture have built a café — and now are working on a church — out of abandoned ocean liners.

Together, their stories convey a deeper environmental and human message about our relationship to things and the sadness we sometimes feel over their loss. In our overconsuming and disposable culture, Scrap explores how artists and other creative thinkers are giving new life to the objects we discard.

Scrap was an official selection at the 2022 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival.
