Introducing our NEXT UP winner... Alistair Ogden

Check it out!

We're pleased to announce that Alistair Ogden from Vancouver, British Columbia is our inaugural winner of CBC Comedy's NEXT UP contest.

When we spoke to Alistair this afternoon, here's what he had to say about winning:

"I couldn't believe it for a second. I was like, 'Wait, oh... I won!'" recalls Alistair.

He was watching the NEXT UP winner reveal livestream on the CBC Comedy Facebook page with his girlfriend. "I looked at the screen, I looked at my girlfriend and I was like, 'Oh... Oh!' She realized before I did!" says Alistair.

"[My initial reaction] was disbelief and then I got very happy. I'd been nervous for about two weeks, so it was great to have all of that stress lifted off. And then knowing that I won, it's amazing."

Here's a little more about Alistair:

Alistair Ogden is a Vancouver-based comedian, freelance writer and UVic grad. He's the host of Comedy Pants, a monthly stand-up showcase at the Avant Garden in Vancouver's Chinatown. Alistair was inspired to step into the world of stand-up after writing a play about a mortician who moonlights as a comic.

The NEXT UP contest put his creative writing skills to the test with the social challenges. "If comedy is something you love to do, [NEXT UP] is a great opportunity to push yourself," says Alistair. His next step will be performing at the 2019 Ha!ifax ComedyFest in April as the winner of CBC Comedy's NEXT UP talent search contest.
