The pitfalls of DIY

From selling crafts on Etsy to starting a small-scale catering company, at its best a DIY endeavour can allow people to express creativity while maintaining control over their schedules.

But author Emily Matchar says not only is dropping out of the traditional workforce financially risky, but it may also be bad for womens' role in society.

Matchar is a freelance writer and the author of Homeward Bound: Why women are embracing the new domesticity.
