A Christmas Carol
The Christmas Carol Readings
Few events hosted by CBC Radio are as eagerly anticipated or as warmly received as the readings of A Christmas Carol. The readings bring together the pleasure of hearing a good story, the joy of music of the season, and the inspired energy of those who want to make their community a better place.
This year, marking the 20th anniversary of these Canada-wide public readings, everything you need to get started is available on this website: the script, the "How-To" Guide, the poster and program templates and other helpful hints. There is no need to check-in with CBC before mounting a reading of your own! We hope that opening up the readings this way, without CBC supervision, will spread the readings far and wide and across Canada and the world!
Since 1990 the Christmas Carol has benefitted shelters, food banks, libraries and hospitals across Canada, and brought joy to the communities that support them. Proceeds raised range from $400 in small communities to over $8,000 at big city productions and they all add up! Across Canada an average of 20,000 people attend the Christmas Carol readings each year and together raise over 200,000 every holiday season! Congratulations on helping make a difference in your communities.
