What's this sport all about:

Women first competed in ski jumping at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.

Only one ski jumper has ever received a perfect set of style points in Olympic competition. Japan's Kazuyoshi Funaki got 20.0 from all 5 judges on his second jump in Nagano 1998.

The longest ski jump so far was set by Austrian Stefan Kraft at 253.5 metres on March 28, 2017 in Norway.

Ski jumpers aim to land their jumps at the K point, also known as the calculation line. If they land on the line, they get 60 points. For every metre short or beyond the line, they lose or gain points.

There are five judges who give can give a full score of 20 points based on flying, landing and style.

Canada hasn't won any medals in ski jumping yet — our best finish so far has been 7th place in 1988 in Calgary.

What’s the Forecast? The weather matters in ski jumping! Points can be added or subtracted to a final score if the wind and weather conditions are poor or favourable.

V-Position: Most skiers hold their skis in a wide ‘V’ shape during a jump — this improves their aerodynamics as they fly through the air.

Telemark position: Check out the way the skiers land. Named after a place in Norway, this position has them landing with one leg in front of the other and one knee bent — kind of like a lunge.
