Katie Graham of Halifax, Nova Scotia, a 21-year-old young woman with autism has been showing cats with her mother for five years. Over that time, her autism and social skills have improved remarkably. She was scarcely able to attend a cat show for an hour when she first started showing. Now, she competes all day and attended the national awards banquet, where her cat placed in the top ten.
"We made a lot of friends and they always check on me every time Mom and I go to a cat show." says Katie, "The experiences are always so fun and full of positivity!"
Osaka, her top winning cat is about to retire, but she has two new kittens, Seamus and Stella to show. "Some of the biggest highs have been for all of us watching Katie get up in front of an auditorium full of people and talk about her cat, not once but twice. Everyone was so supportive, there were some tears shed by a few on that day," says her mom, Christine.
