Cheese of the Year: Le Baluchon
Earlier this month, a small cheese maker in Champlain, near Saint-Anne-de-la-Pérade in the Mauricie, walked away from the Canadian Cheese Awards with a big prize. "Le Baluchon" from the Fromagerie F.X. Pichet won "Cheese of the Year." Elias met the farmer (and the cows!) behind the grand prize-winner. (Aired on Monday, April 28, 2014)
After visiting the dairy farm, Elias toured the cheese factory to see where -- and how -- "Le Baluchon" is made. That involved getting all washed up to enter the facility. His guide was Marie-Claude Harvey, owner and cheesemaker at Fromagerie F.X. Pichet. As for the taste of this award-winning chesse? Elias says, it's kind of firm, a little nutty and has a pronounced aftertaste.
