Travelling from Ireland to remember family connections to the Empress
Martin Gill left Ireland in 1907 to start a new life in Canada. He often made cross-Atlantic trips back to his home country, and that's what he hoped to do when he boarded the Empress of Ireland on May 28, 1914. But that ship sunk. Gill's story did not end in the cold St. Lawrence. Our Marika Wheeler met with Gill's granddaugher, Mary McDermott, who travelled from Ireland to mark the centenary of the Empress of Ireland in Rimouski. Find out why she rightly bears the title of "keeper of the family history." Listen here
