Thomas King is a Canadian-American writer of Cherokee and Greek ancestry. After coming to Canada in 1980, King began to write fiction and nonfiction. He delivered the 2003 Massey Lectures, The Truth about Stories. His books include Truth & Bright Water, The Inconvenient Indian and The Back of the Turtle. He also writes the DreadfulWater mystery series.

Green Grass, Running Water was defended by Glen Murray on Canada Reads 2004The Inconvenient Indian was defended by Craig Kielburger on Canada Reads 2015. The Back of the Turtle won the Governor General's Literary Award for fiction in 2014.
