Michael Kusugak

Michael Kusugak's children's books draw from his childhood in Repulse Bay, N.W.T., now known as Naujaat, Nunavut, raised in the traditional Inuit way of life — hunting, fishing, building igloos in the winter and living in tents and sod huts in the summer. His first book A Promise Is A Promise, co-written by Robert Munsch and illustrated Vladyana Krykorka, is a Canadian classic and recently turned 30. Kusugak's other books include The Littlest Sled Dog, The Curse of the Shaman, T is for Territories, Baseball Bats for Christmas and the Ruth Schwartz Award winner Northern Lights: The Soccer Trails. Kusugak spends a great deal of his year travelling to classrooms around Canada and sharing his stories and his grandmother's stories with students.
