Calling all writers! The 2022 CBC Poetry Prize is now open!

You could win $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, attend a two-week writing residency at the Banff Centre and have your work published on CBC Books. The deadline to enter is May 31, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

The 2022 CBC Poetry Prize is now open for submissions.

You have until May 31, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. ET to submit your original, unpublished poem or collection of poems, up to 600 words in length. There is no minimum word requirement.

The entry fee is $25, which covers the costs of administering the prize.

The winner will receive $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, have the opportunity to attend a two-week writing residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and have their work published on CBC Books.

Four finalists will each receive $1,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and have their work published on CBC Books.

Submissions are read by a panel of established writers and editors from across the country. The shortlist and winner will be decided by a jury comprised of three prominent Canadian writers.

The four finalists for the 2021 CBC Poetry Prize were Mia Anderson of Port Neuf, Que., for Onion, Adriana Oniță of Edmonton for Untranslatable, Bola Opaleke of Winnipeg for The Morgue in My Tears and Alison Watt of Nanaimo, B.C., for Addendum — "Flora of a Small Island in the Salish Sea"

The CBC Literary Prizes have been recognizing Canadian writers since 1979. Past winners include Michael Ondaatje, Lorna Crozier, Alison Pick, Brian Brett and Frances Itani.​

The 2023 CBC Short Story Prize will open in September and the 2023 CBC Nonfiction Prize will open in January 2023.
