Bestselling poet Rupi Kaur releasing on-demand poetry performance film on April 30
Rupi Kaur Live will feature Kaur reading from all three of her poetry collections
Rupi Kaur is releasing a film inspired by her bestselling poetry. Rupi Kaur Live will be available on demand beginning April 30.
Kaur is a bestselling poet from Brampton, Ont. She currently has more than 4 million Instagram followers.
At the beginning of 2020, she was named the writer of the decade by U.S. publication The New Republic.
The hour-long show will feature Kaur reading from all three of her poetry collections. She will also share personal stories from her life, and there will be visuals and music incorporated into the performance.
"We filmed Rupi Kaur Live early last year because I wanted to share my show with my readers all across the world. Not everyone can come to my live events — so here it is virtual — for all to watch and enjoy," Kaur said on Instagram.
It was filmed in front of a live audience before the COVID-19 pandemic began.
"Sharing this show with the world is a dream come true," Kaur said in a press release. "I've spent a decade performing my poetry, and every show since I was a teenager till now, has amounted to this live special. I can't wait to experience it as a collective with all my readers across the world. It's been a journey – and this release feels like a celebration."
The film will be released on demand at 9 p.m. ET on April 30. The film will be available to everyone who purchases a ticket for 48 hours.
Tickets are $15 US. There is also the option of purchasing a ticket with a limited-edition sweater for $100 US.
The film was produced by Kimmie Kim and directed by Liz Patrick. The film's executive producers are Kaur, Kaur's manager Rakhi Mutta and Fred Nelson.
