Vancouver Riot 2011: Witness to Chaos
On June 15, 2011 Riot erupted on the streets of Vancouver following the Canucks' loss to the Boston Bruins in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. Hundreds of rioters set cars on fire, looted stores and taunted police officers as they tore through the city's downtown core. Police declared the area a riot zone as they worked to corral the crowd and put a stop to the rampage. The Riot made headlines across the globe, and left many Vancouverites in shock.
Now, one year later, CBC News is looking back at the night of the Stanley Cup riot through the eyes of those who witnessed the mayhem first-hand — from emergency responders to innocent bystanders.
