The magical performances of Wainwright Noël Nights — in pictures

Rufus Wainwright and Martha Wainwright are hardly strangers to putting on holiday season spectacles. Years after participating in the McGarrigle Christmas Hour shows led by The McGarrigle Sisters (their late mother, Kate McGarrigle and her sister Anna) the Wainwright siblings brought together an extended musical family earlier this month at Montreal's Place Des Arts for a new celebration: Wainwright Noël Nights.

Special airs on CBC Television Dec. 16 and Christmas Day

The choice of season is fitting — the 2005 McGarrigle Sisters live recording The McGarrigle Christmas Hour was the duo's last release before Kate's death, and the concert was a benefit for The Kate McGarrigle Fund, supporting cancer research and teaching at McGill University.

Tis the season for browsing family albums, so before tonight's broadcast, have a look at photographer Benoit Rousseau's luscious pictures of the show, including family friends Emmylou Harris, Kid Koala and more.

Wainwright Noël Nights airs Wed., Dec. 16 at 8 p.m. (8:30 p.m. NT) and Fri., Dec. 25 at 12:07 p.m. (1:07 p.m. AT, 1:37 p.m. NT) on CBC-TV. Watch it online at cbc.ca.
