The Story


When he was young, all he wanted was to be an announcer on the CBC. But in the decades since he first appeared on CBC-TV (as an actor), William Shatner has gone far beyond his home country -- and his home planet -- in the sci-fi favourite Star Trek on TV and in film. In this 1994 interview from CBC-TV's Midday, Shatner also talks about his newest role behind the camera as executive producer of the TV series TekWar, based on a series of novels he authored.

Did You know?


• William Shatner produced the TekWar novels in the 1990s, and they were made into four TV movies before production began on the series. It aired on CTV in Canada for 18 episodes in 1995 and 1996 and was nominated for a Gemini Award for best dramatic series in 1996.


• Shatner hosted the 31st annual Genie Awards show (honouring achievement in Canadian film) on Mar. 10, 2011.
